ORPINGTON COLLEGE STUDENTS CELEBRATE GCSE RESULTS |
|
Sandra Bauer 27-Aug-2009 - [full-time] There were even more smiles than usual as Orpington College students collected their results. For most students this is a second chance to hit the higher grades, and for others a first attempt after disrupted schooling. Overall pass rates for these re-sit examinations were 95% per cent of the exam entries, with 49% of students getting A*-C grades. Overall success rates are up by around 6%. College Principal, Simon Norton said: "We are very proud of our GCSE students’ achievements. For many of them this has been a second chance after poor results at school. This will set them up for the next stage of their education, as most will be going on to level 3 courses like A levels or BTEC Nationals. “Many other young people in the area will be weighing up their options in the light of their GCSE grades. Orpington College can help them find the ideal course for their future success. We have a wide range of options at different levels so we should be able to help, whatever grades have been achieved. And now - thanks to our £26 million rebuilding project, which is nearing completion - we will have first class facilities for them as well as first class lecturers."
